Volunteers for this role will have the opportunity to read stories to our preschool students and engage them in active discussions about the books.

In addition, we also need assistance during preschool dismissal to ensure a smooth and safe transition for our students as they depart from school. On average, the Red Cross responds to approximately 64,000 disasters a year. Of these, about 50,000 are single and multi-family fires and other localized events to which the Red Cross Disaster Action teams respond. Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.

We distribute boxes of food on the 3rd Saturday of each month, so on the Friday night prior, we need volunteers to pack food into the boxes. You do not have to be able to lift the boxes to be helpful. As long as you can place a can into the box, you can make a difference! We're located in the old grammar (elementary) school cafeteria between Clifton and Cummings Streets.

We pack boxes for our 3rd Saturday distribution on the Thursday before the 3rd Saturday. Volunteers will load food in boxes on the assembly line. This normally takes 3-45 minutes. 

On the 3rd Saturday of the month, we distribute boxes of food to clients. Our warehouse is the beige metal building behind the high school cafeteria.

 Those with strong backs are encouraged to help.

If you know anyone that could benefit from receiving a box, tell them to come to Mantachie Methodist Church on the 3rd Saturday morning from 8 - 10. They need to bring proof of residence and proof of income.

Graceful Roots Grandbuddy Program is seeking volunteers who are 55 years of age or older to support children in Lee County community. As a Grandbuddy Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to bond with children and make a difference in their lives by assisting them with reading, tutoring, mentoring, and attending extracurricular activities and events.

Being a grandbuddy is not a job. Therefore, you don't have to worry about being lured out of retirement, since the program is geared towards seniors who are mostly retired or disabled and Children that will benefit the most by bonding with their gb. We strive to make it feasible for grandbuddies to remain active in their communities without having to deal with out-of-pocket expenses.

Benefits:

Volunteers are needed weekly to assist with the packing and distribution of food boxes. Heavy lifting is not required, however volunteers will need to be comfortable with standing/walking for long periods of time. 

The qualified volunteer should be comfortable driving a box truck. Additionally, the individual will need to be comfortable dealing with the loading and unloading of heavy pallets of food. Ideally, the volunteer will posses a CDL and have a clean driving record. This position is subject to a background check along with a thorough vetting process.

The volunteer coordinator needs to be a great communicator and be comfortable with texting or calling large groups of people. The best candidate would take ownership of the position and streamline efforts to keep volunteers informed and serve as a point person for when regular volunteers need to be out of town or miss a regular volunteer time.

C.A.S.A. is a small non-profit that has been in operation for more than 40 years.  We provide affordable After School Care and Summer Programing to elementary age children in the Tupelo area.  The age of our children are from Pre-K to 6th Grade.  As we serve upwards of 200 children in our two programs, we are in a constant need of replacing our toys with newer ones that have been slightly used by their new owners.  We like to think of the movie Toy Story, where Woody gets a new home with new children to play with him!  Donations may be brought by our office.

C.A.S.A. is a small non-profit that has been in operation for more than 40 years, providing affordable after school care and summer programing to families and children in the Tupelo area.  Our full time staff only consist of two staff members, with the rest being part time staff who provide our child care in the afternoons and during our summers.  The Executive Director and Administrative Assistant need volunteer help in the office with day-to-day office organization and filing, answering the phone in the afternoons, when we have to be at our sites or on transportation duties, and running errands including shopping for snacks.  If you are interested, please contact us at 662-842-3887.

Prisoner Visitation and Support (PVS) is the only organization authorized by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Defense to visit any prisoner in the Federal and Military prison systems. The primary focus is on seeing those prisoners with an acute need for human contact -- those prisoners without regular visits, those serving long sentences who are far from home, those in solitary confinement and on death row, and those who are frequently transferred from prison to prison. PVS visitors let the prisoners set the agenda for what they discuss. Common concerns are: lack of contact with family, untreated medical problems, work or educational plans upon release, current events, literature, etc.

The Association for Excellence in Education (AEE) funds innovative grants for teachers in the Tupelo Public School District.  All grant submissions are reviewed by AEE board members and community members, and we are always looking for community members to offer support with this important part of the grant decision making process.

Food Distribution: Food is distributed free of charge, thus improving the lives of needy individuals. We strive to provide supplemental food to children, pregnant women, new mothers, elderly people, the jobless, and those going thru a crisis. Mission Okolona receives food from a variety of nonprofit, private, and corporate donors.

Someone is needed to go into the home and provide companionship and be an extra set of eyes for the patient while the caregiver is recovering from surgery. 1-2 hours a day.

AmeriCorps VISTA members of the North Mississippi VISTA Project commit to a full-time yearlong term of national service to fight poverty and build capacity for organizations working to improve educational attainment, provide economic opportunities, promote healthy lifestyles, and increase food security among underserved youth and families. 

Our members are placed at school districts, non-profit organizations, and at the University of Mississippi working on projects to promote capacity building, sustainable solutions, actionable partnerships, and community empowerment.  Yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA members complete 40 hours of indirect service work at their host site each week during the normal workday, but actual work hours and project activities may vary across partner sites.  Activities may include but aren’t limited to:

Hospice volunteers are needed for various opportunities. (Singing, visiting, devotions, running errands, mowing yards) Volunteering with Halcyon is very rewarding! We host many community projects and serve the patients and their families. 

April's Angels installed a handicap-accessible playground at Itawamba Attendance Center. The playground could use some spring cleaning, power washing, or good old soap and water washing. 

It is time to start collecting items for our Christmas baskets! We collect items, make a gift basket and deliver them to assisted living and nursing home residents! This is the only gift some of the residents receive. Help us spread Christmas cheer and let them know they are loved and not forgotten. Also, the personal care items are very much needed as sometimes money is tight for our residents.  We have made an amazon wish list and will post the link below. These are just ideas, and you should feel free to add to the list and get whatever you think an elderly resident would like to receive. Also, the items do not have to come from the Amazon wish list. We accept items from any store! For example, you may drop off items at United Way of NEMS. The amazon delivery will automatically go there. Gift cards or monetary donations are also appreciated. We are looking for individuals or organizations to help us host a community forum on Alzheimer's and dementia.  

The purpose of the Community Forum is to learn about real-life experiences of communities with the disease, educate about resources, and learn how to engage more people. It is an important community assessment step to identify needs and service gaps within the community, and classify targets for expanded outreach.

The ideal audience would be caregivers, professionals and those who are interested in helping with the cause.

Lee County 4-H is looking for a volunteer willing to help teach a Photography club. This would be a brand new club that we are trying to start due to a tremendous amount of interest that we have had in this project area. Being good with kids/youth is a must!

Safe Haven residents, especially new residents, often need underwear, socks, t-shirts etc. The facility also could use household items such as laundry detergent, dryer sheets, soap, shampoo, dish liquid. Snacks and candy are always enjoyed! Space is limited for storage, but items would be greatly appreciated. 

Centuries of systemic racism, oppression, and injustice have created a world where too many people struggle to meet their basic needs. COVID-19 has only worsened poverty and inequality across the world. Congress has passed historic emergency COVID relief which has the potential to temporarily cut child poverty in the U.S. in half. We must not stop here. The global response to the pandemic is still vastly underfunded, with dire consequences for millions of people. And members of Congress must also understand that poverty was a crisis in the U.S. long before the pandemic. We can’t settle for temporary, modest progress but must call for lasting change.

On average, the course takes about 2 hours to complete and is offered in English.

Office intake prior to doctors visit(vital signs, weight, medication review, labs and test needed, purpose of visit.   Assisting MD as needed.  Both Medical, Diabetes Clinic and GYN appointments.   

Prepare paper medical charts for next visit.  Call patients to remind them of appointments, Filing, Setting up new charts.

Assisting staff with the supervision of children up to age 18 years old. Duties may include assisting with cooking and cleaning.

You are instrumental in connecting your church with Life Choices and events pertaining to life. Opportunities to organize your church to pray for and support the center through material needs and/or financially. Help spread the word about Life Choices to your church community. We will provide you with the information you need in order to share with your church family.

Volunteer drivers provide transportation to our Tupelo area clients to scheduled appointments using their own vehicles. Drivers log into our online portal and choose transports that fit their schedules. During Thanksgiving week, some of our regular drivers will be out of town. Our clients would be so grateful if you would step in and help out!

Do you have a skill or talent you'd like to share with young people? Or do you enjoy games of all kinds? Why not plan an activity to carry out at Faith Haven? Ideas include painting, board games, crafts, skits, story-telling, exercise, and dancing. You can choose to work with younger children or older children. Plan a couple hours of fun and have a ball!

Buying groceries can be difficult for a patient fighting cancer, especially because of the financial burdens caused by cancer treatment. It can be more difficult when diet is limited because of treatment or side effects. By donating non-perishable food to the HOPE Food Pantry, you are helping a local cancer patient through a very stressful time.

Donations can be dropped off at 961 South Gloster or 990 South Madison (both in Tupelo) or 1205 Highway 182 West (Starkville).

A committed Christian woman who is interested in training to fulfill this position. Peer counselors listen to clients without passing judgment and offer a full range of parenting options to help clients make an informed decision. We ask for a commitment of, at least, two to three hours each week so you can work with the same clients throughout their pregnancy.

The area director needs a volunteer to assist with various administrative duties: answering phones, filing, data entry, etc.

If you have skills building and maintaining websites, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Mississippi could use your help. We need a website that promotes our clubs in Iuka, Baldwyn, Corinth, and Booneville. The hours you volunteer would be flexible, based upon our needs and your schedule.
